Casper teamwork practice question: two clubs booked the same gym

Watch the scene, then type answers to both questions on a 3.5-minute timer, as in the typed section of Casper. Submit to get your answers scored with a free account. Our top-graded model answer to each question, and why it works, is below.

You are vice-president of your university's badminton club.

You arrive at the campus gym for the club's Friday evening session and find the dance team setting up speakers. Both groups have booking confirmations for the same time. Your club president, Kevin, and the dance team captain, Aaliyah, are arguing at the door.

What happens in the scene?

Kevin: We've had this slot every Friday for two years. They can find somewhere else.

Aaliyah: Our competition is in eight days. We booked through the same office you did, and we're not leaving.

Kevin: (to you) Back me up here. What should we do?

Can you answer both questions in 3.5 minutes?

What does a top-quartile answer look like?

Try the questions first, then compare. Each answer below is a top-quartile example from Confetto's Casper scorer, graded by it on the 1 to 9 scale raters use.

  1. Question 1

How would you respond to Kevin, and what would you do about the double-booked gym?

Kevin, I understand why you’re frustrated, especially since the club has used this slot for a long time, but it sounds like both groups booked in good faith. Let’s pause the argument and ask the gym attendant what space or time is available. I’d suggest splitting the gym or dividing the session if that works safely for both groups. Since their competition is soon, we should take their training needs seriously, but also check what our club needs tonight. If we can’t agree on an arrangement, I’d ask the attendant to help us make a fair decision, then contact the booking office so this doesn’t happen again.

  2. Question 2

How do you handle a conflict where both sides have a legitimate claim?

I would start by hearing each side without assuming one is right, then check the relevant facts, like what each group booked and what space is available. I’d ask what each side most needs and look for a practical compromise, such as sharing space or dividing the time. I’d explain why that option seems fair and confirm that both sides can use it safely. If we cannot agree, I’d involve the person responsible for the booking and make a transparent decision based on the facts and immediate needs. Afterward, I’d follow up to prevent the same conflict from happening again.
