AACOMAS GPA calculator

AACOMAS converts each grade to a numeric value, multiplies it by the course's semester hours and divides your quality points by your attempted hours. All grades for repeated courses count, a WF counts as an F, and pass/fail and AP credit are left out. Its science GPA covers biology, chemistry, physics and other sciences. Math counts as non-science, which is the biggest difference from AMCAS. The example transcript below gives 3.45 overall and 3.29 science.

How does AACOMAS calculate your GPA?

Each grade becomes a numeric value, which is multiplied by the course's attempted credits to get quality points. Your GPA is total quality points divided by total attempted credits, all in semester hours.

AACOMAS reports GPAs for each school and each year, a cumulative undergraduate GPA that includes post-baccalaureate courses, and an overall GPA that adds graduate courses.

Science vs non-science on AACOMAS

  • Science GPA: biochemistry, biology/zoology, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, other sciences and physics.
  • Non-science GPA: behavioral sciences, English, mathematics and other non-science.

So a calculus or statistics course moves your AMCAS BCPM but not your AACOMAS science GPA, and a geology course does the opposite. See the full subject list in AACOMAS Course Subjects.

Retakes, pass/fail and quarter hours

  • Repeated courses: AACOMAS does not recognize schools' forgiveness, academic renewal or grade replacement policies. All grades for repeated courses count.
  • Non-graded credits such as AP, pass/fail and satisfactory credits stay out of your GPAs.
  • A WF (withdrawn failing) counts as an F.
  • Quarter hours: 1.0 quarter hour = 0.667 semester hours.

Questions people ask

Does AACOMAS still replace retaken grades?

No. Its help center says AACOMAS does not recognize schools' grade replacement policies and that all grades for repeated courses count in your AACOMAS GPA.

Why is my AACOMAS science GPA different from my AMCAS BCPM?

AACOMAS leaves math out of the science GPA and adds other sciences, such as geology. AMCAS does the opposite.

How does AACOMAS handle quarter hours?

It calculates every GPA in semester hours, using 1.0 quarter hour = 0.667 semester hours.

Do pass/fail courses count on AACOMAS?

No. Pass, satisfactory, pass/fail and AP credits are non-graded and stay out of your GPAs. A WF counts as an F.
