The Anne Burnett Marion School of Medicine at TCU interview format

The Anne Burnett Marion School of Medicine at Texas Christian University (the Burnett School of Medicine at TCU, Fort Worth) interviews with a virtual Multiple Mini-Interview. The AAMC's MSAR report for the 2027 class says the school "participates in the virtual Multiple Mini-Interview (MMI) format through the KIRA platform," and the school's how to apply page places it inside a three-day virtual visit.

What the school doesn't publish on its current pages: the number or length of stations or sample scenarios. The station description and Monday schedule come from a 2023 rater recruitment posting on the school's site, so treat them as background, not as this year's guarantee.

Burnett's 2026-27 timeline

  • AMCAS: opened May 5, 2026, with a deadline of November 15, 2026. Files are reviewed on a rolling basis. The school is not on TMDSAS.
  • Secondary application: sent to applicants with four or fewer MCAT attempts and at least 90 credit hours. Due December 15, 2026 with Casper scores and a $100 fee (waived for AAMC fee assistance recipients).
  • Casper: required, 65 to 85 minutes, test code CSP-10111 (U.S. Medicine). The page lists December 3, 2026 as the final test date.
  • Letters: at least one by December 15, three encouraged. A committee letter counts as one.
  • Experience minimums: at least 150 hours in each of Service, Leadership, Physician/Patient Interaction and Personal Excellence.
  • Offers: rolling, after October 15, until the class of 60 is filled.

What the Burnett School looks for

The school's competitive application page frames the review around four areas: professional readiness, personal readiness, academic readiness and institutional fit. It says it wants to know how experiences "shaped your future aspirations," asks you to "be prepared to demonstrate your ability to work in a team," share "observations of the unique privilege in the patient-physician relationship," and describe how you balance competing demands. It names mission-specific core competencies, and says the school trains "Empathetic Scholars," a term it uses for its graduates (Empathetic Scholar is a registered trademark of the school).

The vMMI is described in the school's own words as "the foundation of the admissions process" and as a series of short, structured stations that assess the non-cognitive qualities of an applicant. Use the four readiness areas as your story bank.

How to prepare for Burnett's interview

  • Practice the station rhythm. Read the scenario, plan briefly, then talk to a rater in a breakout room. Aim for a structure: issue, people affected, options, decision.
  • Prepare for the Founding Dean session. Have two or three questions that show you read about the school, its curriculum and the Empathetic Scholar idea.
  • Prepare for the Tuesday forum. It is mandatory. Treat it as part of your visit: be attentive and professional on camera.
  • Tie your hours to what you learned. With 150-hour minimums in four categories, the question is rarely how many hours, but what changed in you.
  • Prepare for scenarios about empathy and teamwork. Practice stating what you notice about the other person before proposing a solution.
  • Check the Kira setup. Camera, microphone, a quiet room, and a stable connection before Monday.

Burnett practice questions (written by us, not Burnett)

The school doesn't publish its station scenarios. These stations are ours, shaped around the readiness areas the school names. Practice each aloud with a timer.

  1. Why the Burnett School, and what does it mean to you to be an empathetic physician?
  2. A patient tells you they cannot afford the medication you just prescribed. What do you say?
  3. Describe a time you worked in a team where one member was struggling. What did you do?
  4. Tell me about an experience that changed how you think about the patient-physician relationship.
  5. Station: a friend asks you for help with a problem you think they should take to a professional. How do you respond?
  6. How do you balance competing demands when everything feels urgent?
  7. Tell me about a time you led others in service. What did you learn about leadership?
  8. Station: you disagree with a team decision that has already been made. What do you do?
  9. What does personal excellence mean outside of grades and scores?
  10. What is one thing in your application you would like to talk about more, and why?

A drill for the Burnett interview

  1. Pick four prompts: one empathy scenario, one teamwork scenario, one competing-demands scenario and one on why Burnett.
  2. Answer each in two minutes on camera, in the setup you'll use on interview day.
  3. Watch it with the sound off. Are you looking at the lens and nodding when you listen?
  4. Have a partner give two follow-ups per answer: "Where did you make a decision?" and "What would you do differently?"
  5. Rewrite each story as three bullets and repeat it two days later, without reading.

If you don't have a practice partner, Confetto's AI mock interviews ask follow-up questions based on what you actually said and give rubric-based feedback afterward. The question bank has over 500 questions, and you can start with a 7-day free trial.
