The Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University interview format

The Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University (Netter, North Haven, Connecticut) holds a virtual interview day with two one-on-one interviews. The AAMC's MSAR interview procedures report for the 2027 entering class says interviews are "conducted virtually via Zoom," that candidates "can expect to spend approximately five hours online," and that the day includes "2 one-on-one interviews and meeting with admissions staff, current students, and the Associate Dean for Admissions." The school's apply page says applicants receive an agenda "consisting of two interviews with students, faculty or administration."

What Netter looks for

The apply page says Netter strives to develop "patient-centric future physicians who will provide compassionate and humanistic care while becoming leaders in healthcare." It describes a holistic review of "academic promise, meaningful experience and service, scholarship, and extracurricular activities," considers "the context of each application" and "distance traveled," and looks for qualities that show the AAMC Core Competencies. The Casper score is "considered as part of the holistic review process that aligns an applicant's attributes with the vision and mission" of the school.

The academic catalog gives you curriculum hooks. Students spend one afternoon a week in a community physician's office through the Medical Student Home (MeSH) program from the start, a Coaching for Adaptive Learning course in Year 1 builds a growth mindset, and Year 3 is a year-long longitudinal multi-specialty clerkship. The curriculum is tied to ten competencies, including Professionalism, Interprofessional Collaboration, and Community Partnership and Civic Responsibility. The school also sits on an interprofessional campus with nursing, health sciences, physical therapy, occupational therapy and physician assistant students.

How to prepare for Netter's interview

  • Prepare for two different conversations. The interviewers may be a student, a faculty member or an administrator. Keep your main stories consistent and expect different follow-ups.
  • Use the ten competencies. Pick a real example for each of professionalism, teamwork across professions, communication, and community responsibility.
  • Know the "distance traveled" idea. If your path has been hard or non-linear, be ready to describe what changed and what you did, without apologizing for it.
  • Prepare to talk about feedback and growth. The curriculum has a course on adaptive learning. A story about taking hard feedback and changing is a natural fit.
  • Read the pre-interview materials. The AAMC says Netter sends documents and videos before the day. Come with specific questions rather than general ones.
  • Plan for five hours online. Eat, hydrate, test your setup, and treat each session as a fresh start.

Netter practice questions (written by us, not Netter)

Netter doesn't publish its interview questions. These are ours, shaped around what the school says it looks for. Practice each aloud for about two minutes.

  1. Why Netter, and what about learning in a physician's office from the first year appeals to you?
  2. Tell me about a time you received difficult feedback. What did you change?
  3. Describe a time you worked with people from a profession other than medicine. What did each of you contribute?
  4. What does "distance traveled" mean in your own story?
  5. Tell me about a time you helped your community with something that mattered to you, not just a requirement.
  6. Describe a time you had to deliver news someone did not want to hear.
  7. What would a patient notice about the way you treat them in the first two minutes of a visit?
  8. Tell me about a time you took a leadership role without being asked.
  9. Where have you seen a gap in the health care system, and what would you do about it as a student?
  10. What is one thing in your application you would like to talk about more, and why?

A drill for the Netter interview

  1. Pick four prompts: one on feedback, one on teamwork across professions, one on community and one on why Netter.
  2. Answer each in two minutes on camera, in the setup you'll use on interview day.
  3. Watch it with the sound off. Are you looking at the lens and nodding when you listen?
  4. Have a partner give two follow-ups per answer: "Where did you make a decision?" and "What would you do differently?"
  5. Rewrite each story as three bullets and repeat it two days later, without reading.

If you don't have a practice partner, Confetto's AI mock interviews ask follow-up questions based on what you actually said and give rubric-based feedback afterward. The question bank has over 500 questions, and you can start with a 7-day free trial.
