Preparing for the Nova Southeastern University Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine interview
NSU MD's virtual MMI on an online module, the PREview requirement, the competencies it assesses, what is and isn't published, plus practice prompts and a drill.

The NSU MD interview format
Nova Southeastern University's Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine (NSU MD) uses a virtual Multiple Mini Interview. Its selection process page says NSU MD "will continue to use a virtual Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) format" and that the admissions committee "assesses core competencies that are essential for success at our medical school." The AAMC's MSAR interview procedures report for the 2027 entering class agrees: NSU MD "requires candidates to participate in a Multiple-Mini Interview (MMI) format," and the platform "is an on-line module." Logistics are provided after an interview offer.
| Item | What NSU MD and the AAMC say |
|---|---|
| Format | Virtual Multiple Mini Interview |
| Platform | An online module (MSAR) |
| What is assessed | Core competencies essential for success at NSU MD |
| Interview season | Generally September through April (FAQ) |
| Decision | Typically 3 to 4 weeks after the interview (FAQ) |
| Campus visit | Offered to interviewees during the cycle, dates to be determined |
NSU MD doesn't publish the number of stations, how long each lasts, or sample prompts, and says details come once you are invited. Its page tells you to prepare "in the same way you would prepare for an in-person interview." Note that Nova also has a DO college with its own interview, which our Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine guide covers. This guide is only for the MD college.
What the school says it assesses
NSU MD's requirements page lists personal attributes it evaluates: altruism, capacity for improvement, cultural competence, ethical responsibility to self and others, intrinsic motivation to pursue an MD (self-awareness), problem solving and critical thinking, reliability and dependability, resilience and adaptability, services and experiences, social skills and empathy, teamwork, and verbal and written communication. The FAQ says "motivation, passion, sensitivity to the needs of others, excellent oral communication skills, and maturity receive particular attention."
The selection page says what it hopes to see on interview day: "what you love most about medicine," how you "work as part of a team and support others in reaching their goals," and readiness "to push past your comfort zone and into a far more immersive, hands-on program than you'll find at most traditional medical schools." Its advice is "Relax and be yourself."
The curriculum page describes case-based, team-based learning in groups of seven to eight students under a faculty facilitator, with simulated patients and real-world examples, and research opportunities. The mission is "to advance human health through innovation in medical education, research, patient care, and community engagement," and the core values are excellence, innovation, teamwork, communication, diversity, integrity and accountability.
NSU MD's requirements and timeline
- MCAT: a minimum of 502. NSU MD uses your highest MCAT and PREview scores for initial screening, and may consider all scores in holistic review. There is no minimum GPA.
- PREview: NSU MD requires completion of the AAMC PREview exam, with no minimum score.
- Application: AMCAS, then a secondary with a $50 fee. NSU MD's timeline page currently lists the 2025-26 dates (primary December 31, 2025 and secondary January 31, 2026), so check the page and your secondary for the 2026-27 deadlines.
- Interviews and offers: interviews generally run September to April, and the page lists rolling decisions from December to July for the prior cycle.
How to prepare for a virtual MMI
- Practice talking to a screen with a timer. NSU MD says the platform is an online module, so rehearse reading a prompt, thinking briefly and answering on the clock.
- Prepare for the listed attributes. Resilience, teamwork, cultural competence, ethics and communication each deserve at least one story.
- Have a "why hands-on, case-based" answer. The school's own pitch is immersive learning in small teams. Say why that suits you with a real example of learning in a group.
- Use the structure. For ethics and scenario prompts: restate the problem, name the people affected, give your decision and reasoning, and say what you'd do next.
- Take the PREview early. It is a requirement, and it has fixed test dates.
NSU MD practice questions (written by us, not NSU)
NSU MD doesn't publish its prompts. We wrote these around the attributes it lists. Allow about two minutes each.
- Tell me about a time you worked as part of a team to help someone reach a goal.
- Describe a time you pushed past your comfort zone.
- A classmate you work with has started missing deadlines and you suspect something is wrong. What do you do?
- A patient from a different culture refuses a recommended treatment for reasons you don't share. How do you respond?
- Tell me about a time you were resilient after a failure.
- What do you love most about medicine, and where did you see it?
- You notice a peer shared confidential information in a public hallway. What do you do?
- Describe a time you had to adapt quickly to a change in plans.
- How would you explain a complicated diagnosis to a worried family member with limited health knowledge?
- Why would a case-based, small-group curriculum suit the way you learn?

A drill for a virtual MMI
- Pick six prompts: two ethics, two teamwork or collaboration, one resilience, one communication.
- Set a two-minute timer for each. Read the prompt once, think for 20 seconds, and answer aloud to your camera.
- Take a short break between prompts, like the reset between stations, and clear your head before reading the next.
- Watch the recording. Mark where you ran out of structure or time.
- Repeat with a new set and try to finish each answer with a clear next step.
