Written scenario · Communication, Professionalism
A note signed "tired neighbor"
You are a resident volunteer responsible for the notice board in your apartment building's lobby.
You open the board on Monday and find a handwritten note signed "a tired neighbor." It complains about the constant stream of visitors to apartment 4C, and most residents would know who lives there. Several people have already stopped to read it. The board has no written rules about anonymous notes, and you must decide whether to take it down, reply publicly, or leave it up.
The two questions
- 1What would you do about the note, and what would you say, and to whom?
- 2How do you decide when a shared space should be open for people to voice complaints and when it should be limited?
What raters look for
- Communication
- Listens first, speaks clearly and respectfully, and adapts the message to the listener.
- Professionalism
- Is reliable, respects boundaries and confidentiality, and holds a consistent standard under pressure.
