The erased booking
You are the neighbor who keeps the sign-up sheet for your building's common room, and you made the booking error.
In the ground-floor common room, Joachim, 41, and Joao, 54, discuss Saturday's bookings: a grandmother's eightieth birthday and a weekly study group preparing for exams. You accidentally erased booking dates and confirmed both reservations; neither knows. Two smaller rooms are available, but using them would split the study group, whose members tutor each other. The birthday guests cannot fit there; moving their celebration would require finding and paying for another venue.
The scene
Joachim: Forty relatives are coming Saturday. Another venue means costs we hadn't budgeted.
Joao: Those smaller rooms split our tutors up when everyone needs exam help.
Joachim: Could your group rotate tutors? I'd help arrange rooms and move furniture.
Joao: Maybe, but we'd lose study time. What support can you actually offer?
The two questions
- 1What would you tell Joachim and Joao about your mistake, and how would you weigh splitting the study group against relocating the birthday celebration?
- 2Tell us about a time you made a mistake that affected other people. How did you handle it?
What raters look for
- Problem solving
- Gathers facts before acting, considers options and consequences, and chooses a workable next step.
- Self-awareness
- Recognizes own biases, limits and emotions, and seeks and uses feedback.
